Il ritratto non è mai una semplice registrazione: è un atto di negoziazione tra chi guarda e chi è guardato, tra la superficie visibile e ciò che rimane nascosto. In questi lavori il volto diventa campo di forze — tensioni tra identità e maschera, tra presenza e assenza, tra ciò che il soggetto mostra e ciò che la materia pittorica rivela contro la sua volontà. Il gesto non descrive: interroga. Ogni pennellata è una domanda lasciata aperta sulla tela.
